Yacht runs aground near Stoupa
Yesterday at noon, a German-flagged sailing yacht carrying three passengers ran aground in the sea area of the Messinian Gulf, near Stoupa. The incident was reported under favourable weather conditions, with no immediate threats posed by the environment.
Upon receiving the alert, a patrol boat from the Coast Guard was dispatched to the site. In addition, a private boat equipped with a diver joined the rescue effort. Both teams collaborated efficiently, and the diver played a crucial role in the operation to detach the stranded vessel.
The sailing boat, which had been left adrift after running aground, was safely detached from its position. It is now expected to be towed to the port of Kalamata for further inspection and necessary procedures.
Importantly, there have been no reports of injuries among the three passengers or the rescue personnel involved in the operation.
Authorities have confirmed that there has been no marine pollution as a result of the incident.
