  Subject Matter
Over the years, we have been lucky enough to have had a range of editorial contributions, from a range of different people, sharing their expertise and experiences of the Mani. Local artists show-casing their work, nature lovers imparting their knowledge on a specific subject, historians expanding on a period of Mani history- the list is almost endless and we were always so grateful to receive their wise words. No topic is out of bounds but here is a short list of what we know our readers are most interested in, which may trigger an idea in you and get you typing! And don’t forget that if you get your article published, then to open up more interest and discussion on your passion, simply create a  GROUP on our forum for others to comment.
Of course we’ll be covering many of these areas ourselves but are always happy to bow to superior knowledge and in any case, a different point of view is always a good thing!
NATURE
Naturally, a very extensive and diverse subject! But it was the number 1 area of interest in a survey we conducted in the autumn of 2024.
Flora & fauna – the sea – foraging – olives – the landscape….
HISTORY
The Mani has a rich history and therefore a wealth of potential historical pieces, depending on your specific period of interest- Ancient, Byzantine, War of Independence, WWII and post war.
FOOD & DRINK
Everyone’s favourite!
- A restaurant review
- A traditional Mani recipe
- An in-depth comparison of beers or wines available locally
- ……………
A DAY OUT
Retell the best day out you’ve had, whether within the Mani or beyond!
WALKING
The area has some great walks- we could have a regular feature in each magazine on some of the best!
HUMAN INTEREST
Maybe an interview with a local character you are friendly with or a “Day in the Life”, shadowing someone you know (a waiter/waitress or a fisherman etc).
FAQ's
We hope we have answered most of your questions below to give a clear idea of what will ultimately be required. BEFORE setting “pen to paper” though, please email your synopsis to mat@insidethemani.com just to make sure we’re on the same page and don’t waste anyones time!
What do I need to supply?
Ideally the text in a Word document (I don’t use Apple) and any photos sent separately. Sending closed .pdf files will not work.
How long should the article be and should it include photos?
Generally, our articles are between 1,200-1,800 words but there is no set minimum or maximum. Obviously, photos make things more interesting and if you look at this free article, you can see there is a “Hero” image at the top, which needs to be quite a high resolution (1920 px wide). We can advise when the time comes.
Can I include video?
Of course! Simply get the video to us and we’ll post it on a video hosting platform and then embed it into your article.
English isn't my first language
Don’t worry. We have a great team of editors and proof readers if a bit of “tidying up” needs to be done. Once approved, we can send you back the edited version for your approval.
Once approved, when will my article get published?
This depends on a few factors but the main one is whether it is time sensitive- it makes no sense having an article on Spring Flowers in the Winter edition! But if it gets scheduled for 6 months in the future, you won’t have to wait until then to be issued your free subscription- that will be activated as soon as it gets approved, so you can immidiately start enjoying the site.
What if my article gets rejected?
This is why we’d like to hear your basic idea first. If it seems appropriate, then we’ll offer support (if necessary) to get it over the finish line! In 16 editions of the hard copy magazine, we never rejected an article once.
