Western Mani declared to be in Emergency Civil Protection

The Greek government has officially declared Western Mani to be under a state of Emergency Civil Protection.

This declaration was made by the Secretary General of Civil Protection following significant disruptions caused by severe weather events on February 1st and 2nd, which also affected extensive areas of Messinia.

The emergency status addresses the immediate response and management of the consequences arising from floods, landslides, and coastal erosion resulting from heavy rainfall and strong winds.

The state of emergency will remain in effect until April 30, 2026, after which it will be automatically lifted without the issuance of a new document.

This designation allows local authorities and relevant agencies to expedite procedures for damage restoration, implement flood protection projects, and provide support measures for affected individuals.

In scope are the following priority areas within Western Mani

  • Neochori – Stoupa
  • Agios Nikolaos
  • Kardamyli
  • Kariavouni
  • Platsa
  • Nomitsi
  • Agios Nikon
