Police target Kalamata Roma Camps for "crime suppression"
Tharros yesterday reporteed that Police have carried out extensive searches in Roma camps in areas of municipalities of Kalamata and Oichalia, with the purpose of supressing crime in the area.
The investigations focused on Roma camps in the areas of Meligala, Asprochoma, Agios Konstantinos, Arfara, Agios Floros and Agia Triada. B
During the inspections across Messinia, 33 people were checked, 5 people were brought for questioning and 4 people were arrested for various offenses.
A 39-year-old Roma man was arrested in posession of two amounts of illegal drugs, a 24-year-old woman and a 17-year-old Roma, for deprivation (presumably theft?) of an identity card and another a Roma for violation of the Health Regulation, related to water supply and drainage.
Abreast 4 violations of the Road Traffic Code were also confirmed.
The police authorities emphasize that these operations are targeted, with two purposes: the prevention and suppression of crime, and the strengthening of Greek citizens’ sense of security.
According to a statement, Police actions will continue with intensity throughout the area.
