GAIA publicly support the health center

Tharros News now report that GAIA too high have written a public letter calling for improved staffing at the Agios Nikolaos clinic. They point out how they empathise with the daily problems facing workers at the center, highlighting that the workload will only increase as the tourist season gets extended.

“This results in constant and increased pressure on the Health Center, with doctors and nursing staff being called upon to manage serious cases, with excessive zeal, exhausting hours and superhuman efforts, despite the minimal resources available, the shortages in equipment and – above all – dangerous understaffing. It is inconceivable for healthcare workers to continuously offer their services without adequate rest, without regular time off, and even without being able to use sick leave when this is deemed necessary for their own health. Under these circumstances, not only their own physical and mental health is put at risk, but also the safety of the patients they are called upon to care for. As an association, we express our full support for the medical and nursing staff of the Agios Nikolaos Health Center of Western Mani and we agree with what the nurses of the Health Center point out in their open letter of protest.”

“We call on every competent and responsible body to take this situation seriously and to immediately find a permanent solution to the chronic problem of understaffing, in order to ensure public health, humane and safe working hours, as well as the dignity of employees.”

“Health is a fundamental social good. As Civil Protection volunteers with a sense of responsibility, solidarity and contribution to our fellow man and the local community, we declare our presence and actively support those who give their best every day for all of us.”
