A major second step to resolving the water crisis in Mani

Although the number of tourist visitors to Mani was higher than anticipated this season, there were no issues locally with water sufficiency. So, said the Mayor of West Mani,  Mr G. Chioureas speaking to Tharros today.

However, in the last few days warnings from the Dimos about very low levels of water reserves have now been issued.

Mr Chioureas however confrmed that discussions are ongoing with national bodies regarding the construction of a second new desalination plant, which he says will radically solve the water supply problem in the region.

“There are discussions with the Region Peloponnese and the ministry for another desalination unit for a thousand cubic meters clean and drinking water in the network of Mani. At the same time, it is in the project to replace networks from Diros to Pyrgos, which is a huge project of 3.5 million euros, for which the contractor has been installed and work is ongoing. We believe that a part of it will be ready by next season“.
