Arrests made for traffic police warnings posted on Viber

It may be tempting in this age of instant messaging and enforced traffic regulations to inform your fellow humans about the presence of traffic police, however, it seems Greece’s cyber crime unit have taken an interest in this – with the arrest of two people doing just that.

Kathimerini reports that a popular online messaging group used by over 160,000 people to broadcast the locations of police checkpoints and visible patrols across Greece has gone silent following the arrest of two individuals.

Before the group ceased posting on Tuesday, messages flowed rapidly, warning drivers of Traffic Police roadblocks.

Cyber Crime officers arrested a 29-year-old and a 55-year-old. They are accused of acting as the Admin’s of “Alarm Moto..!!” – and face charges of “incitement to commit crimes” and “dangerous interference with road traffic.”
