1507 traffic police stops in a week
Greek traffic police in the Peloponnese are certainly getting hot and heavy on non-use of motorcycle helmets.
In the first week of September, police officers in Argolida, Arcadia, Corinthia, Laconia and Messinia, carried out a total of 1,507 stops on riders of mopeds, motorcycles, three-wheelers and rental bikes as well as professional distributors to comply with the obligation to wear a helmet, by drivers and passengers.
A total of 172 violations were confirmed to two-wheeler drivers, 5 violations to passengers and 3 violations to drivers-employees in a distribution service.
In Messinia alone, 506 inspections were carried out and 67 violations were confirmed in two-wheeler drivers.
Police have pointed out that the penalties for repeat offences are now significantly increased.
