Milea – Agios Nikolaos

Description: Although this walk is not the easiest logistically, it is worth considering as it follows such a beautiful route. It is easier both in terms of organisation and effort to walk down from Milea rather than the other way round. This would require catching the morning bus to Milea or arranging for a taxi. The walk follows the Tepeni gorge away from Milea on a way marked , stone path.

The countryside is stunning and it is very peaceful. Just before reaching Eleochori, (also known as Izna) the path reaches the dry river bed and is fairly steep going up the other side.

1. The walk begins in the square of Milea by the main church. Walk away from the church on the main road to Platsa.
2. Turn right down these steps to take you past the old school building and then the slightly hidden, small church of John the Baptist. The path drops down to reach a stone bridge and emerges onto a concrete road to take you into Kato Hora.
3. At the main square, the path continues on the far side. Ignore the later sign directing you down into the gorge. The path is now very clear and winds its way slowly down to the river bed.
4. Once in the river bed, turn left, scramble over the large boulders for a few metres and follow the sign to Eleochori. The path soon joins a wider, dirt road.
5. At the first right hand bend, keep straight onto another narrow path. Once you reach the village, the route down to the coast at Agios Nikolaos is now all on tarmac and takes around an hour, passing the village of Ano Riglia en route. Once you arrive at the main coastal road, turn right and then after 100m, left down to Pantazi beach.
